Words of Practical Wisdom: SARAH BRITTON from MY NEW ROOTS

Sarah Britton, in an 'activated' nutshell

Sarah lives in Copenhagen and is a Holistic Nutritionist and Certified Nutritional Practitioner and started the incredibly popular My New Roots blog in October 2007, which has been a platform for sharing edible inspirations from her playtime in the kitchen, and her deep love for whole foods. Her recipes and ideas revolve around a plant-based way of eating.

Sarah Britton has been featured in print and online media globally, notably The Guardian, Forbes, Oprah Magazine, Kinfolk, Whole Living, ELLE and many more.

What is your food philosophy? A lot of people want to know “what I am” – vegetarian, vegan, raw foodist, fruitarian, macrobiotic…guess what? I am a person who eats! My food philosophy is this: I hate labels. They stink. They force a person to define themselves with very rigid terms, and beat themselves up if they suddenly eat something that doesn’t fit that definition. I know I never want to have to label what “kind” of diet I subscribe to. Being dogmatic about anything, for me, just doesn’t work. Being flexible does.

What are 3 foods you can't live without?

Avocado, Sweet potato and Kale. These are the best basic whole food ingredients that you can use to create sweet or savory dishes.

What is your number one tip for vitality?

Eat as close to the earth as possible. Every meal should be made up of in-season whole foods that are ideally organically grown. Keep processed foods to an absolute minimum.

What are some of your tips for people starting out on their healthy journey?

1. Make one small healthy change every day. For example change to brown rice instead of

white rice, drink a glass of water instead of a soda).

2. Stay Hydrated. Drinking enough pure water every day makes a massive difference to your

energy levels and how you function.

Wow, what a privilege to be able to share with you tips and recipes from this incredibly talented lady.

If your searching for inspiration in the kitchen and love a bit of food 'eye candy' its pretty hard to bet the My New Roots blog for recipe ideas, incredible pictures and a entertaining read and health education.

I found this blog in 2008 and those of you who came to my daughters 2nd birthday will recognize the Raw Cashew Dream Cake and I know I've put a fair few of you onto the Life Changing Loaf of Bread (many versions of this now but this is the original recipe) and the dressing for the Best Lentil Salad, Ever is a must have in the fridge as it just makes any salad taste incredible.

And I leave you with this great quote....
